Pressure mounting as Motegi awaits Moto3™

Pressure mounting as Motegi awaits Moto3™

Luis Salom’s championship lead is just five points with two rounds remaining in 2013. Although that means the Mallorcan could mathematically wrap up the title this weekend, the threat from Alex Rins and Maverick Viñales is as strong as ever.

With the Moto3™ grid tightly poised at the top of the championship table, the AirAsia Grand Prix of Japan in Motegi is a mouth-watering prospect.

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s championship leader Salom now only holds a five-point advantage over Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Rins, with 50 still on offer in the final two rounds. Rins came out victorious at Phillip Island and will be hoping for a repeat at Motegi in a bid to overtake his compatriot ahead of the final race of the season.

Team Calvo’s Viñales is also still in contention, despite having a tougher task at hand with a 22-point deficit to Salom. He has, however, shown that he can scrap it out with the top two and only lost out on victory in Australia by three thousandths of a second.

Mahindra Racing’s Efren Vazquez and Miguel Oliveira, GO&FUN Gresini Moto3’s Niccolo Antonelli and Caretta Technology – RTG’s Jack Miller could also all be tipped as possible podium candidates, making prediction for the top three finishers somewhat taxing. Two Japanese wildcards will join the field in the form of Team Plus One’s Sena Yamada and Team Honda Asia’s Hiroki Ono.
