Viñales tops Warm-Up ahead of title shootout

Viñales tops Warm-Up ahead of title shootout

Maverick Viñales was quickest as the Moto3™ field enjoyed its last track action in Valencia ahead of Sunday’s title-decider. The Team Calvo rider topped the Warm-Up session from Jonas Folger, while fellow title battlers Alex Rins and Luis Salom ended proceedings in respective third and fifth places.

On a cool but bright morning at the Ricardo Tormo circuit and with hoards of spectators flooding into the venue ahead of both the Moto3™ and MotoGP™ championship deciders later today, Viñales topped the opening session with 1’39.790. This was just under two tenths of a second quicker than Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3’s Folger, with Rins rounding out the top three for Estrella Galicia 0,0.

Championship leader Salom (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was inside the top five, just behind Jack Miller (Caretta Technology – RTG). Should either Viñales, pole-sitter Rins or Salom win the race, they will be crowned Moto3™ World Champion of 2013.

The Warm-Up was not without its incidents, as Miguel Oliveira suffered another fall for Mahindra Racing. Jakub Kornfeil (Redox RW Racing GP) also hit trouble, crashing at Turn 5 but rejoining the action, and there was a similar scenario for Kiefer Racing’s Toni Finsterbusch whose own lurid moment came at the 14th and final corner.

The 2013 Moto3™ title decider will begin at 11am local time (GMT +1).
