Luthi sets pace in Monday Valencia test

Interwetten Paddock’s Tom Luthi was the fastest of ten Moto2 riders who were present in a private test at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia on Monday.

At the track where he crashed heavily in preseason testing early in 2013 Luthi continued the work he had started on Thursday and Friday in Jerez, using solely the 2014 Suter machine and topping the timesheet with a best lap of 1’34.970.

Experienced former MotoGP rider Alex de Angelis made progress with his new team, riding a Suter machine with a chassis from 2013 but registering a best time of 1’35.200. De Angelis will ride a 2014 spec machine when he resumes testing with Team Tasca after the winter break.

Jordi Torres put in a best time of 1’35.350 as he and teammate Nico Terol tested various set-ups for the Aspar Team. At his local track Terol rode the 2014 Suter machine which both riders tried last week at Jerez and today recorded a best time of 1’35.400.

Tuenti HP 40 Moto2 rookies Maverick Viñales and Luis Salom continued their adaptation to intermediate class 600cc machines, with lap times recorded privately by the team.

Speed Up newcomers Sam Lowes (1’36.000) and Alessandro Nocco (1’37.900) put in some additional laps having also tested at Jerez last week, though Nocco’s day was hampered by two crashes without serious consequences.

The likes of Anthony West on the QMMF Racing Team Speed Up bike and Louis Ross on the Stop and Go Kalex were also in attendance at the Spanish track, with testing wrapped up by 4.30pm due to spots of rain and poor light.

Also present were Moto3 riders Philipp Oettl (Interwetten Paddock), Livio Loi (Marc VDS Racing Team) and Juanfran Guevara (Mapfre Aspar), getting in some extra track time ahead of the forthcoming season.

Luca Marini was also working with the Aspar mechanics, preparing for potential further World Championship wild card rides in 2014 and his European Championship season with the team next year.
