Luthi fastest as Jerez test continues

Tom Luthi set an impressive pace as Moto2™ testing resumed in Jerez on Wednesday. The Interwetten Paddock Moto2 rider led the Marc VDS Racing Team riders while Takaaki Nakagami was fourth for Idemitsu Honda Team Asia.

It may have been chilly on Wednesday morning, but the entire field was delighted to see bright sunshine following a tricky day with a damp track 24 hours earlier. Britain’s Gino Rea continued to follow proceedings from an observer’s point of view, however, having broken a foot in the Valencia test of last week.

Luthi’s leading time came in the shape of 1’42.515, edging out Marc VDS’ Tito Rabat by less than one tenth of a second as his team-mate Mika Kallio completed the top three. Behind Nakagami, Tasca Racing Moto2’s Alex de Angelis was fifth while Speed Up’s Sam Lowes continued to impress with sixth. The top eight was completed by Julian Simon (Italtrans Racing Team) and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP).

Not all escaped trouble. Caterham Moto Racing’s Josh Herrin and QMMF Racing Team’s Roman Ramos (the latter enduring pain in his right leg) were two riders to experience crashes, while even pace-setter Luthi - who was otherwise concentrating on tyre conservation - suffered a small incident during the afternoon.

A total of 33 Moto2™ riders took to the track, which was particularly busy during the phases in which the circuit was shared with those competing in Moto3™.

The final action of the week commences at 10am local time (GMT +1) on Thursday.
