Pedrosa already noticing tyre differences

Dani Pedrosa racked up 88 laps as the three-day Phillip Island tyre test began on Monday. The sole Repsol Honda Team rider present, the three-time premier class championship runner-up completed more laps than any other rider present.

Following the tyre-related problems of the 2013 Australian Grand Prix, this week’s test features new tyres from both Bridgestone (MotoGP™) and Dunlop (Moto2™). In Pedrosa’s case, the Spaniard started Monday on last year’s tyres in order to compare them with the 2014 bike, before conducting short runs (each of a minimum of six laps) as research started with the new experimental tyres.

"The track was not bad, but slower," Pedrosa explained. "In the morning it was about having a feeling on the track and getting used to the corners, then after lunch I did my tyre test. I was testing compounds which I can’t really tell you much about, because it is confidential, but one of the tyres was better. We’ve been evaluating the different tyres that have been brought here and tomorrow we will test another compound."

Pedrosa is the only Repsol Honda rider at Phillip Island, with injured World Champion team-mate Marc Marquez continuing to recover at home in Spain.
