Nakagami in front again on second day of final Jerez test

Nakagami in front again on second day of final Jerez test

The penultimate day of 2014 Moto2™ preseason testing concluded with Takaaki Nakagami at the top of the combined timesheets in Jerez.

The Japanese rider was also fastest on Tuesday with a 1’42.587 best time and he improved on that fast lap with a 1’42.547 effort on Wednesday to end the sessions 0.015s ahead of his nearest rival.

Idemitsu Honda Team Asia rider Nakagami worked on chassis settings with his Kalex, also adjusting geometry and suspension in order to be ready for round one in Qatar in just over a week. His fastest time came with his last lap in the final session of the day.

Second overall was Interwetten Paddock Moto2’s Tom Luthi, who has stated already this week that he feels ready to race. His team are making minor set up adjustments to improve the handling and turning of his Suter.

In third spot was former Moto3™ World Champion Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), the German Kalex-equipped rider topping the first session of the day with a 1’42.692 lap to end the day 0.145s behind Nakagami overall.

Johann Zarco was fourth for AirAsia Caterham Moto Racing, with the team focusing on the quality of their set-up and not the quantity of laps. So a race simulation is not expected from the new team at this test.

Pons HP 40’s Luis Salom, NGM Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi, Federal Oil Gresini Moto2’s Xavier Simeon, Technomag CarXpert’s Dominique Aegerter, Tasca Racing Moto2’s Alex de Angelis and Argiñano & Gines Racing rider Axel Pons rounded out the top ten.

Speed Up’s Sam Lowes, who was third fastest on Tuesday, sat the day out due to a muscular swelling on his right forearm. Malaysian rider Hafizh Syahrin crashed at turn 10 in the midday session causing a brief red flag, but he escaped serious injury.

Testing continues on Thursday, with the intermediate class field on track again from 10am local time (GMT +1).
