Cortese forecasts ‘very good’ Qatar result

Sandro Cortese is confident that he can begin his second Moto2™ season in strong fashion, having finished second fastest on the final day of pre-season testing.

The Dynavolt Intact GP rider was second only to week-long pace-setter Takaaki Nakagami as the Jerez test drew to a close on Thursday. Having struggled in his maiden Moto2™ season last year, having stepped up to the intermediate tier as the Moto3™ World Champion, the German reckons much more is possible in 2014.

“That was a very important day for us again,” the 24-year-old claims. “In general, the test was very successful. We could try out a lot and were consistently fast. We have continuously caught up to the top. Therefore, I am now very confident and happy. The long run today was very positive. I always did my laps within two, three tenths and set my fastest time in the last lap, which was extremely positive. Now I 'm glad that the tests are finally over and the season starts.

“I don't know what we are able to achieve in Qatar, because four of the top people were missing at this test, but you can say that we have reached the top ten. We still have to be realistic and not dream of wins or podiums, but I think - if we work hard - we can finish in a very good position.”

Cortese was unable to pick up a podium finish in his debut Moto2™ campaign in 2013, achieving a best race finish of tenth in the Aragon Grand Prix.
