Fenati thanks team after returning to winning ways

Two years on from his stunning win in Spain in just his second Grand Prix, Romano Fenati returned to the top step of the podium in Argentina with the Valentino Rossi-backed Sky Racing Team VR46.

Getting away from the second row on the grid Fenati produced a strong performance over the 21 lap contest at Termas de Rio Honda, securing the victory on the final lap with two determined passes on Alex Marquez and Jack Miller.

The race produced another enthralling Moto3™ battle, with Efren Vazquez and Livio Loi also amongst the frontrunners, but ultimately it was Fenati who took maximum points. The victory tasted sweet, as the Italian rider explained afterwards.

“Winning again is an amazing experience and we’ve made a great team effort,” he stated. “With Miller we overtook each other so many times, it was a great battle. He was very fair with me, but unfortunately on the last corner the front closed on me, I lost control and the contact was unavoidable. I apologize, he is angry now but we'll talk soon. At the half way point the tyres were already gone and I almost fell a few times."

“On Saturday I had a fever and did not have a good feeling with the bike. I didn’t think I could be at the front throughout the race, but I got a good start and I saw the chance to go on the attack. We were fighting for the win at the last corner. I want to dedicate the victory to my family and to Sky Racing Team VR46, as they’ve created a great team and a top level package.”

The co-founder of the Sky Racing Team VR46, Rossi added, “It’s a great feeling of satisfaction. We’re very happy because we started on this project last summer and everyone involved has worked really hard. In the race the rider adds that extra 20% and Romano won a great battle. We now have two consecutive podiums and the goal is to be there every Sunday. There’s a good atmosphere in the team and the guys are working well, working a lot. (Francesco) Bagnaia is also doing a good job, it’s just a shame that he crashed today."
