Scassa injured, unable to sub for Petrucci

Luca Scassa has been injured while testing Danilo Petrucci’s ART MotoGP™ machine at Mugello on Wednesday. It had been planned for the Italian to cover for his injured compatriot in this weekend’s French Grand Prix, but he will now also be forced to remain on the sidelines.

Petrucci had been ruled out of action following a crash in the Warm-Up for the Spanish GP, after which he underwent an operation on a fractured left wrist. With this in mind, Scassa – who raced in the premier class to cover for Cardion AB Motoracing’s Karel Abraham last year – was to be drafted into Petrucci’s place this weekend, only to crash at Mugello’s Luco corner (Turn 2) on Wednesday.

Following immediate treatment from the Mugello medical team, Scassa was then taken to the Borgo San Lorenzo Hospital where it was confirmed that he had sustained a fractured right femur. Scassa’s untimely accident means that he will have to sit out of upcoming commitments with his Team Pedercini eni FIM Superbike World Championship outfit, while with no rider IodaRacing Project will be unable to compete in this weekend’s Monster Energy Grand Prix de France MotoGP™ event.
