Bradl rides father’s 250 bike at Sachsenring

Stefan Bradl took the opportunity to ride his father’s 1991 250 World Championship runner-up bike in a promotional event at Sachsenring on Sunday.

After racing his LCR Honda machinery to tenth at the rain-hampered Iveco Daily TT Assen on Saturday, the German rider rushed to catch a plane to Sachsenring, the venue of the next round of the 2014 MotoGP™ World Championship.

One of Bradl’s personal sponsors Ilmberger Carbonparts had put together a “Tech Day” for fans and the German MotoGP™ star took the chance to ride the 250 two-stroke Honda in HB colours - which his father Helmut raced to second place overall in the intermediate category in the 1991 season.

Also at the event Bradl’s LCR Honda team manager Lucio Cecchinello held workshops about materials used in MotoGP™ – focusing on carbon, but also on suspension and setting up race machines.

“The development of new technology and the improvement of our bikes are key for the success of the riders,” Bradl said. “It’s crucial to have research into new materials that can be tried in racing. Carbon is one of the most innovative commodities in racing and can help gain vital seconds due to its light power-weight ratio.”
