Bitter end to Assen visit for Lowes

Bitter end to Assen visit for Lowes

Sam Lowes had an eventful weekend at the Iveco Daily TT Assen, leading the race after qualifying on the front row, only to crash out when in contention for a first Grand Prix podium.

The World Supersport champion is adapting rapidly to Moto2™ in his rookie season and is starting to feature towards the business end of the timesheet in practice sessions, looking to build on several top ten race results so far in 2014.

However, having qualified third at Assen - his second front row start this year after he was second on the grid at Mugello – the Englishman gave it his all in a complicated TT race, only to crash out when fighting for a rostrum finish. The second of two crashes ended his race, Lowes having remounted after initially crashing when in second place.

He had already led having taken the holeshot at the first corner and he took all the positives from a visit to one of the Grand Prix circuits at which he has previous riding experience. His consistent pace and his improving feeling with the bike provide confidence to the rest of the season.

Lowes admitted, “I am not pleased with the result because we did not finish the race, but it was a learning experience for me in wet conditions, trying to understand the tyres. But the weekend was also positive because we were fast in every session, so I am only disappointed I couldn’t finish with a good result. Anyway, the confidence is high and I am looking forward to Germany!”
