Aleix Espargaro top Open rider once more

Aleix Espargaro top Open rider once more

The Hertz British Grand Prix saw NGM Forward Racing Team’s Aleix Espargaro as the top Open rider once again, finishing in ninth position after a hard battle with Stefan Bradl, Andrea Iannone and his brother Pol Espargaro.

After a great start that saw him in fourth on the first lap, Espargaro dropped down the field towards the back of the top ten as the early laps unfolded. The Spaniard appeared to be losing ground on the straight, whilst recovering under braking.

After a tough battle with rivals such as Honda rider Bradl, Ducati-equipped Italian Iannone and his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 sibling Pol Espargaro, the elder Espargaro would finish with a well-deserved ninth place.

With this result the Spaniard maintains sixth position in the 2014 MotoGP™ World Championship standings with 92 points after 12 races.

“I did a great start and in the first laps I tried to stay with the front guys. Compared to other times, I was suffering more in terms of top speed,” Espargaro explained.

“I was losing a lot on the straight, while I was recovering under braking. I was battling with Iannone, Bradl and my brother Pol. They were overtaking me on the straight, while I broke very late to recover positions. It was frustrating. Anyway, we leave Silverstone sixth in the championship and this is positive. I look forward to racing in Misano, it’s a small track and I think we can do well there.”
