Viñales notches up another Moto2™ podium

Viñales notches up another Moto2™ podium

The reigning Moto3™ World Champion Maverick Viñales - the standout rookie this season in Moto2™ - produced another impressive ride on Sunday at Silverstone to secure his fifth podium of the year to date.

The Paginas Amarillas HP 40 rider enjoyed a successful weekend at the Hertz British Grand Prix, showing good pace in free practice, even if he was only able to qualify in eighth place.

Once the race commenced Viñales made a good start from eighth on the grid and went in search of the front group, but suffered a setback when he was clipped by by Dominique Aegerter before the end of the first lap.

Having lost two seconds to the rider in front of him, Franco Morbidelli, Viñales soon got back on the pace, later overtaking the likes of Morbidelli, Sam Lowes and Johann Zarco.

Indeed at one stage Viñales had made it up to second position and was in front of eventual race winner Tito Rabat, but Rabat and provisional leader Mika Kallio just had the edge on him in the final stages. Crossing the line in third place Viñales was only +0.203s behind his victorious compatriot Rabat as he crossed the line.

“I think we had a very good race,” said Viñales afterwards. “I felt very strong on the track and have to be very happy. We were able to run a strong pace and I’m happy because we were good all weekend. After the race in Brno we are back, to gain a lot of confidence. I congratulate the team because they worked very well and we had a quick bike. I am convinced that in Misano we will have another good weekend.”
