Franco Morbidelli produced another solid performance on Sunday in Spain, achieving the best result of his debut season in fifth place.
The Italtrans Racing Team rider had qualified well in fourth position on Saturday and he held his own with the top riders in the class in the race, running with the front group and beating the likes of Dominique Aegerter and Mika Kallio to the finish line. He also impressed in FP3 at Aragon, topping the timesheets on Saturday morning.
Morbidelli sits 11th in the Moto2™ World Championship on 63 points, only three points adrift of his fellow rookie Luis Salom in eighth.
He reflected on the Aragon weekend saying, “I am very pleased with the way the race went, we did a good job and our work paid off. I needed a while to understand what the track conditions were and how to make the most of it with my bike, so I didn’t attack from the beginning and was a little behind in the early stages. But later on, the feeling was good and once you understand where you can push more and where you should be more cautious, its easier to race. I’m pleased with results so far, but I want to go on and do even better.”
