Jarvis praises Lorenzo following victory in Spain

Lin Jarvis, Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director, was full of praise for race winner Jorge Lorenzo on Sunday, as the Spaniard produced a stunning ride at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon.

The last two rounds have seen success stories for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team with consecutive wins at Misano and Aragon, ending a barren run for the manufacturer – whilst rival factory Honda notched up 12 successive victories.

For Lorenzo personally his round 14 triumph was a reward for his perseverance after a difficult start to the year. Lorenzo had been knocking at the door in recent weeks having rediscovered his regular podium form and he has now made the step on from four second places in a row - to take his first win since Valencia last season.

Jarvis commented, “It’s really wonderful. Obviously in the last four races he was second four times, so a win had to come and what could be better than a win here in Spain straight after Valentino’s victory in Italy. It is a win for Jorge on home turf, at the Movistar Grand Prix. For him it’s perfect and for us it’s perfect.”

On the race itself Jarvis added, “When it is raining like that, the question is when do you make your call. Frankly the guy that impressed me most in this race was Aleix Espargaro because he pitted early and he took the chance. Now you see the result of that. I was hoping and wishing that Jorge was going to make that early pit and leave the Hondas out.”

“Finally he did it just at the end and the Hondas stayed out one lap too long. We got the benefit of that. I’m sorry for them and their accident, but when it’s raining it’s always chaos. The rider’s decisions are so critical.”
