Marquez in front in morning Warm Up

In Warm Up at the Tissot Australian Grand Prix pole man and World Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was the pace setter, with Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo also on the pace.

Marquez led the way with a 1’29.871 lap of Phillip Island in cool and windy conditions, with Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) improving late on to finish the 20 minute session just 0.028s behind his colleague. Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) trailed Marquez by 0.057s in third.

Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone (+0.077) and Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi (+0.15) were also in the top five.

Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team), Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3) were also in the top ten.

In today’s race Marquez starts from pole for the 12th time in 2014, which equals the record for most MotoGP™ poles in a single season held by Casey Stoner from 2011. Phillip Island is one of only two current circuits, along with Sepang, on which Marquez has not won in either the Moto2™ or MotoGP class.

Marquez is aiming to take his 12th win of 2014 to equal Mick Doohan’s record from 1997 for most premier-class GP wins in a single season.
