Ramon Aurin to be Pedrosa’s new Race Engineer

Experienced Spanish technician Ramon Aurin will replace Mike Leitner as Race Engineer for Dani Pedrosa in the Repsol Honda Team next season.

A week after Leitner announced his decision to leave his post at the end of the current season, Pedrosa confirmed on Thursday that Aurin will be the Austrian’s replacement. Aurin has worked in Pedrosa’s crew since 2012 as a telemetry engineer.

On Thursday in Sepang Pedrosa said: “We believe that Ramon is the best person for this position. It was my view and HRC believe the same.”

Aurin, 49, has been involved in the World Championship since the early 1990s. He worked closely alongside motorcycle designer and mechanic Antonio Cobas, a pioneer in applying telemetry to racing, joining Sito Pons’ team and going on to work with riders such as Alex Criville, Carlos Checa, Alberto Puig, Jorge Martinez Aspar, Loris Capirossi, Max Biaggi, Troy Bayliss and Andrea Dovizioso.

Since 2006 Aurin has worked in the Repsol Honda team, first as a telemetry analyst with Nicky Hayden, who won the MotoGP™ World Championship that year.
