Hernandez finishes as top Ducati rider in Malaysia

A determined ride from Yonny Hernandez and a late drop in pace by Andrea Dovizioso at Sepang saw the Colombian finish the round 17 race as the top Ducati man. Seventh place in his 50th premier class appearance is his best result to date in MotoGP™.

With Hernandez’s teammate Andrea Iannone sidelined by injury and Dovizioso’s colleague Cal Crutchlow retiring early from the race, it was not a great weekend for the Ducati-equipped riders, but Hernandez is nonetheless pleased with his personal performance.

Starting from 13th on the grid Hernandez rode diligently in the Sepang heat to cross the finish line seventh, just over ten seconds ahead of Dovizioso – who dropped back from fourth in the final stages with a technical issue. Hernandez was also just over 12 seconds ahead of Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera on the Open Ducati.

Energy T.I. Pramac Racing rider Hernandez commented, “I made a very good start, definitely the best in my career! I felt good and I kept a good pace throughout the race although in the last five laps it was really hard due to the rear tyre that was sliding a lot. Seventh position is my best result in MotoGP, I am very happy but I still have to improve because we have everything we need to get these results.”
