The annual Motosprint ‘Golden Helmet’ awards ceremony took place in Milan last night, with several MotoGP™ World Championship stars in attendance. World Champion Marc Marquez received two awards, with the likes of Andrea Iannone, Andrea Dovizioso and Romano Fenati also being recognised for their achievements in 2014.
The respected Motosprint magazine holds the Caschi d’Oro awards presentation each year, to acknowledge the performances of the best riders from various disciplines of motorcycle racing.
Four time World Champion Marc Marquez took to the stage twice, first to collect his Golden Helmet recognising his outstanding 2014 campaign and later to receive the Top Rider prize, as voted for by Motosprint readers. The Spaniard won the vote over such illustrious riders as Valentino Rossi and Toni Cairoli.
Marquez was asked about his aspirations and dreams, to which he replied, “I've already achieved one. Winning the World title in three different categories. But you never get tired of winning!”
They were also Golden Helmets for future Ducati Team colleagues Iannone and Dovizioso, Moto3™ rider Fenati, female motocross World Champion Kiara Fontanesi and for Aprilia manager Romano Albesiano, who collected an award for the success of the manufacturer in WSBK.
MotoGP Legend Giacomo Agostini received a Golden Helmet for his lifetime achievements. It is now 38 years since the last Grand Prix victory of the rider with the most World titles in the history of the World Championship.
