Fourth fastest for NGM Forward Racing’s Espargaro

The opening day of practice at the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana saw Aleix Espargaro finish fourth overall on his NGM Forward Racing Forward-Yamaha.

After being crowned 2014 Open class Champion, despite back-to-back DNFs in Australia and Malaysia, Espargaro is eager for a strong final weekend before switching to Suzuki for 2015. The elder Espargaro brother started well, finishing third in FP1.

FP2 saw the Open Yamaha rider improve to a 1’31.565s, good enough for fourth on the combined timesheets. This put him ahead of both Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP).

Espargaro is still battling with younger brother Pol and his teammate Bradley Smith (both Monster Yamaha Tech 3) for sixth in the overall championship, the trio split by nine points.

“I’m pretty satisfied with today’s result because I’ve never been very competitive on this track. I have a good feeling on the bike, but I’m missing just a bit more confidence on the front, I’m pretty sure that tomorrow I can improve my lap time even further. This morning I was really aggressive from the first corner, I felt good with the bike and the setting. We made a change in the afternoon and that dropped front grip. It will be the last race of the season with the NGM Forward Racing Team and the goal is to fight with the front guys and see what happens,” reflected Espargaro.
