Bagnaia completes MAPFRE Aspar Team revolution for 2015

Bagnaia completes MAPFRE Aspar Team revolution for 2015

Promising youngster Francesco Bagnaia will become MAPFRE Aspar Team’s third Moto3™ rider for 2015, in a radical team overhaul aimed at recapturing glory days.

There is no doubt that the MAPFRE Aspar Team has undergone a major overhaul ahead of next season's Moto3 World Championship, with the successful Valencian outfit changing riders and manufacturers in a bid to return to the glory days of the recent past. A fundamental part of the plan was to become a factory team and the first step was the announcement that the MAPFRE Aspar Team would be joining forces with Indian manufacturer Mahindra. Since then the team have moved to sign Juanfran Guevara, who impressed in his first season with the team in 2014, and also snapped up recently-crowned Rookies Cup Champion Jorge Martin.

Now the MAPFRE Aspar Team has the pleasure of announcing the signature of a third rider for its 2015 Moto3 line-up in the shape of Bagnaia. The team run by Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ have moved to secure the services of one of the brightest prospects in Italian racing, who is ready to become a World Championship frontrunner in his third season. The 17-year-old from Torino is hungry for success and his work will begin alongside his new team-mates in a three-day test later this week at Jerez.

Martinez commented: “The MAPFRE Aspar Team is undergoing big changes for next season in Moto3, and for us it is a very important step to become the Mahindra factory team. We are very excited about this project and I want to thank them once again for their support and confidence. We will have three very young riders in the team, I have complete faith in them and I know they represent what we are looking for, which is to get our excitement back, fight at the front again and give 100% in every session. Juanfran, Jorge and Francesco are three different riders but they all have a lot of potential and I am sure that they will give us plenty to celebrate. Pecco is a young Italian talent with links to the VR46 Academy, he is making progress every day and there is a lot to come from him. With the right guidance and care he can become a great rider.”

Bagnaia added: “Signing for the MAPFRE Aspar Team is a big opportunity for me. I have gained a lot of experience this season and I am ready to take the step up to a major team like the MAPFRE Aspar Team. It is very positive for me to be riding a factory Mahindra next season. I am happy to sign with a Spanish team, the Spanish are setting the benchmark at the moment in the World Championship and Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar’ and his team have an incredible history, with many world titles behind them. I am sure that together we can achieve great things. I have spoken with Jorge and Gino Borsoi, and I have a lot of confidence in both of them. You can tell they are great professionals and they have made me feel at home from the beginning. I am sure that they will help me to grow as a rider. The objective for next season is to give my best, to push hard for the best possible results and hopefully to be consistent.”

Moto3, 2015, Francesco Bagnaia
