Petrucci: ‘I’m happy to be back with Ducati’

At last weekend’s MotorShow in Bologna, Italian rider Danilo Petrucci spoke to before heading on to participate in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.

What is your assessment of the November tests? Are you are pleased with your initial steps with Pramac Racing?

“Yes, I am really very happy. After the Valencia Grand Prix the 2015 preseason started with a major three day test. In particular the second day was good as I finished ahead in the wet. The third and final day I finished in seventh place, just 0.6s from Marc Marquez. For me that is already a remarkable result considering it was the first time with the new bike. I'm happy to have joined Pramac and to return to Ducati after my experience as a test rider a few years ago. Also, the bike is very fast.”

What feelings did you have in terms of your adaptation to the bike and what are the next steps?

“At the Valencia test we just aimed to get the feeling with the team, but with the bike it was not so important to be fast. Now I have the winter ahead to train and to get to the first Sepang test (from 4th February) in perfect condition. For me it is the first time in my career, despite being my fourth year in MotoGP, that I'll start from the first official test of the season and I'll be getting ready for the first race in Qatar.”

Do you still have any discomfort from the serious injury you sustained this year during the GP at Jerez?

“Yes, I visited the hospital in Barcelona and they found a nasty split in the radius bone, but fortunately I don’t have big problems when I'm riding. Riding with the the Ducati I've not found it difficult either, but I still need to strengthen my muscle tone.”

What are your goals for next season?

“The Valencia test was not really a benchmark, I don’t set goals. I’d rather go step-by-step, but I also believe that in some races I can be in the top 10. And perhaps fighting with my teammate, Yonny (Hernandez). He is a great guy and it will be a good battle with him.”
