Martin: “In the last laps, I tried to push at the maximum”

Spaniard takes his second career podium at the season opener

Del Conca Gresini Moto3 rider Jorge Martin had a good start to 2017, fastest in combined practice times and that then converted into pole position as qualifying was rained off. Getting a good start and staying in the lead group, the Spaniard then started to struggle with the rear tyre – before pushing full throttle through the last few laps and securing a podium finish.

Jorge Martin, P3: “In general it was a great weekend for us and thanks to the team for the hard work. I started really good and I was able to be really fast but then I started to feel bad with the rear tyre. Then I was in fifth or six fighting for bad positions, but in the three last laps I tried to push at the maximum and was able to catch the group again. I was able to pass four riders to get on the podium. So I’m happy with that. We need to improve some aspects of the bike. In general it’s good but we need to improve the rear grip. If we do that, we can be more competitive for the next race.”
