Argentina MotoGP™ race guide

Argentina MotoGP™ race guide

All of the information you need before you settle down to watch the Gran Premio Red Bull de la República Argentina.

The MotoGP™ race at the Termas de Rio Hondo consists of 25 laps around the 4.8 km circuit, and is due to start at 16:00 local time:

•    Marc Marquez starts from pole for the second successive race. This is the 24th pole in the MotoGP class for Marquez and he has won fifteen times from his previous twenty three pole position starts.

•    Aleix Espargaro is in second place on the grid, which is the first front row start for Suzuki since Loris Capirossi was third fastest qualifier at Mugello in 2009. This is just the second front row start for Aleix Espargaro in the MotoGP class; his other was when he was on pole at the Dutch TT last year.

•    Andrea Iannone is on third place on the grid – his first front row start of the year.

•    Cal Crutchlow, who missed the grand prix in Argentina last year, is in fourth place on the grid – his best qualifying since the Australian GP last year.

•    The highest placed Yamaha rider on the grid is Jorge Lorenzo, who has qualified in the middle of the second row. He has not been on the podium at the last three races, which is his longest sequence of grand prix starts without a podium finish since his rookie season in MotoGP in 2008.

•    Andrea Dovizioso starts from the final place on the second row, the first time this year he has missed out on the front row. Dovizioso has finished second at each of the opening races of the year and another top three in Argentina and he would be the first ever Ducati rider to open the season with three successive podium finishes.

•    Danilo Petrucci heads the third row of the grid, which is his best ever qualifying result in MotoGP.

•    Valentino Rossi is in eighth place on the grid, the same grid position from which he has taken his last two GP wins; at the opening race of this year in Qatar and at Phillip Island last year.

•    Maverick Viñales is in ninth place on the grid in just his third race in his rookie season in the MotoGP class. Viñales has been the first rookie rider across the line in each of the opening two races of the year.

•    In 12th place on the grid is Hector Barbera maintaining his record of being the top Open Class rider in qualifying at every race so far in 2015.
