Barbera: “I had more problems that I expected”

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera decided to cut his losses and take the points during the #ItalianGP after a difficult race.

After being the fastest Open Class rider in qualifying for fifth time this season, the target of Hector Barbera was to get his fourth “victory” in the Italian Grand Prix, Ducati’s home race. However, from the first laps the Avintia Racing rider had no feeling with his Desmosedici GP14.1 and it was impossible to fight with Loris Baz to be the best Open in Mugello. With Hayden, Bradl and Miller crashing during the race, the French rider is six points behind Barbera in the Open Class standings, with the Avintia Racing increasing his leading.

Hector Barbera: “It was a difficult race and I had more problems that I expected so I didn’t enjoy riding the bike in a circuit that I love. During the first couple of laps I had two big moments when I lost the front and I could save it twice with my elbow. Then I saw Hayden and Bradl crashes, I think they are my biggest rivals in the Open Class fight, so I thought that it was important to finish the race, don’t take big risks and bring home some points. Is early to think about the championship, but we have six point advantage and in this class the points are really difficult to archive.”
