Oliveira: “I did not know if I could take the victory”

Oliveira: “I did not know if I could take the victory”

A second victory for Miguel Oliveira as he shines in Moto3™ brawl at the Motul TT Assen.

For the second time this season Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took to the top step of the podium, overcoming an aggressive race long battle. Starting from sixth on the grid, Oliveira made an excellent start and led into the first corner. From then the KTM rider had to battle to protect his positions and lines constantly.

The final sector was critical for Oliveira, calling on his vast experience in the class to find the perfect position on track to block the other riders. Despite having his doubts earlier, Oliveira was able to claim victory and claw back nine points on championship leader Danny Kent (Leopard Racing).

Miguel Oliveira: “I'm happy with my performance today, because I did not make too many mistakes and it was a pretty difficult race. To be honest, after the warm up I did not know if I could take the victory, having ridden behind Kent. But in the race I made a good start and I tried to believe in myself, concentrate and go forward. I followed a good strategy and I put myself in a good position to overtake the other riders. In the final braking move I tried to defend my position and I managed to win. It was fun, with a lot of overtaking, but it was very hard and the race felt quite long. I managed to maintain a good pace; it was difficult with the strong wind today, so at the end we had to be very focused. I'm really happy with this second win of the season, thank you to the team.”
