Iannone: “I am half satisfied”

The Sachsenring is a very new track for the GP15, the upgraded Ducati having never run at a circuit with a similar tight layout.

Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone put in a respectable 1’21.824 to end Friday practice in third at the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. Ducati continue to work hard on improving the GP15, this weekend brining a new tail unit for the machine. In 2016 Ducati will line up with the same rules as those imposed on Honda and Yamaha thanks to Ducati’s strong season.

Despite this strong opening day Iannone still feels the hard tyre, the most likely for the race, is an unknown. FP2 saw Iannone test the specially made asymmetric front before putting in a soft rear to set his fastest time.

Andrea Iannone: “I am half satisfied, in the sense that for sure I managed to get a good result today, but in the end we still have to understand how competitive we can realistically be with the harder tyre. Even today we are struggling a bit more than what I expected: I was sure I could go quicker much easier than this and be closer to the front. In any case we are working in a methodical way and we have found a set-up with which I can be quite quick. This is important with tomorrow in mind.”
