Pedrosa: “We tried some different bike setups and tyres”

Experimentation was the order of the day for Dani Pedrosa, however the Honda rider is yet to touch the asymmetric front.

The afternoon session saw all but four MotoGP™ riders improve their times as temperatures increased. Pedrosa eventually finished the day in fifth spot, just 0.268s down on Repsol Honda MotoGP teammate Marc Marquez who led proceedings. Overall it was a steady start to the Grand Prix for Pedrosa who has achieved great success at the Sachsenring, claiming four victories in the premier class there.

With ten left hand bends and just three rights the German circuit presents a unique challenge for tyre supplier Bridgestone. This weekend Bridgestone have brought the unique asymmetric front, where the left hand side is hard than the right to deal with the unequal distribution of corners. Pedrosa is yet to try this tyre although Marquez set his fastest time using it. Along with testing the asymmetric front, improving his Honda in several key areas of the track are Pedrosa’s main aims for Saturday.

Dani Pedrosa: “It was a good first day and we tried some different bike setups and tyres in the practice sessions, but not the asymmetric front - perhaps we will try this tomorrow, we will have to wait and see. We have to make a step with the bike ahead of tomorrow as there are a few points of the circuit where we need to improve corner entry in particular, this will be the key to lowering our times our times.”
