Thankfully OK after his huge Turn 7 highside in Warm Up at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has described his crash as “one of the biggest” he’s had.

The eight-time World Champion lost the rear of his RC213V towards the end of Warm Up at the ferociously fast Turn 7 right-hander. It was one of the most violent crashes we’ve seen in a long, long time, but fortunately, Marquez sustained no serious injuries from the 180km/h+ highside. This came after Marquez had crashed twice in Q1 on Saturday afternoon, as a number of riders struggled more than anticipated in Mandalika, including Repsol Honda teammate Pol Espargaro and Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar).

After visiting a local hospital to undergo further checks on Sunday morning, Marquez, his team, and the medical team took the decision that he wouldn’t race in Indonesia, because of a concussion sustained in the fall. It was a shame to not see the number 93 race in the first Indonesian GP for 25 years, but it was undoubtedly the correct decision. And most importantly, the 29-year-old was alright. Now, Marquez will head home, rest, and get ready for the upcoming Argentina GP that begins at the start of April.
“What can I say? It has not been our weekend, we have struggled and had problems from the start. It was a really big crash in Warm Up this morning, maybe one of the biggest I have had,” said Marquez. “I went to the local hospital and while there were no serious problems – it was decided that I should not race. It’s of course a shame, but the best decision.”
