Zarco: “Yesterday didn't go completely well”

A third consecutive pole position for Moto2™ Championship leader Zarco ahead of the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.

Ajo Motosport’s Zarco dominated the qualifying session for the German GP, taking pole position with a lap set earlier in the session. Zarco has often struggled with the Sachsenring, unable to find a solid set up for his Moto2™ bike in seasons past. However, the Ajo team and Zarco have made strides this weekend, ending FP3 in second before improving further in Qualifying.

With Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Racing) nursing a still healing collarbone, now is the perfect time for Zarco to push and extend his championship lead further. The French rider is staying calm though, he is not willing to risk too much and is happy to settle for points if his primary aim of victory can’t be achieved. His plan is to attempt to break away at the start in order to have as clean a race as possible.

Johann Zarco: "It was a good session. I was able to ride fast right from the first run, and when that happens I can ride even more relaxed. I knew that with the second set of tyres I could push harder, because I had already done a good time, and I managed to improve my times. I really enjoyed it, because yesterday didn't go completely well, but at this track I had always struggled in Moto2. With a new bike and a new team, things have been better at every track. The goal for tomorrow is victory and if I can, to try to escape. That is the strategy, but I will have fun anyway, even if I have to fight with other riders."
