M Laverty: “I began to lose rear grip going into turns'

A commendable return to MotoGP™ for Laverty as he quickly adapted to the Aprilia machine and found form on the Bridgestone tyres again.

In his first race on the Aprilia back in MotoGP™, Michael Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) rode to a solid 20th place, just four seconds behind Loris Baz (Athina Forward Racing). The primary goal for Laverty, and Aprilia in general, is to collect data in 2015 in order to return even stronger next season. Laverty’s return to racing was eased by the extensive testing program he has run with the Noale factory, meaning he was already amiliar with the V4.

The replacement rider had a strong start to the race initially mixing with the Open Hondas, including his brother Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team); unfortunately fading rear grip saw him fade back during the race. Regardless, the German GP was a learning experience for Laverty who regained confidence with the unique Bridgestone tyres with each lap.

Michael Laverty: “I got off the line well and was battling with the Open Hondas and Baz. I felt comfortable but at a certain point I began to lose rear grip going into turns. I dropped back a few positions and then I wasn't able to make up the lost ground. It's a shame because in the last ten laps I began to figure out how to ride in those conditions, moving my position forward and putting more weight on the front tyre. I learned a lot in this race. It was a great experience and I am quite pleased with how it went.”
