Marquez: “Right now Jorge is the toughest rival”

Marquez: “Right now Jorge is the toughest rival”

Pole position for Marquez at a track he has dominated, but he’s still weary of his rivals come race day at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

The story of the weekend has been the battle between Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) for supremacy, the Yamaha rider getting the advantage on Friday. But Saturday has seen Marquez take the upper hand, topping FP3, FP4 and taking pole position. The last four years have seen the rider starting on pole claim victory at the famous Brickyard, a streak Marquez intends to continue.

Marquez has also taken four successive wins at Indy, two in Moto2™ and two in MotoGP™. Sunday’s race will undoubtedly be a battle between Marquez and Lorenzo, their pace looking a step above the rest. With Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) starting down in eighth, Sunday’s race represents a perfect opportunity for Marquez to begin his championship comeback.

Marc Marquez: “I'm happy because FP4 went very well. Maybe the 6 tenths aren't completely 'real' and there is actually only one or two tenths difference, but the positive thing is that we managed to turn around the gap that we had to Jorge yesterday. There is still the warmup tomorrow and I think everybody is improving, as the track condition is changing and we have to continue to adapt to it. Right now Jorge is the toughest rival and we must be vigilant."
