Marquez strikes first in FP1

 Marquez strikes first in FP1

Marc Marquez lays down an early marker to title rivals Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi by topping this mornings practice by 0.388s.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez led the way at the Octo British Grand Prix this morning by setting a 2’03.111 to finish ahead of the two men level on points at the top of the championship standings, teammates Jorge Lorenzo (+0.388s) & Valentino Rossi (+0.856s).

Although the sun was out at Silverstone, track temperatures reached just 12˚C during the session and so times were some way off Marquez’s pole record (2’00.691) from 2013. Marquez sat on top of the timesheets for most of the session to finish almost four-tenths ahead of Lorenzo, with Rossi amazingly over eight-tenths off his pace in third. In fact, over a second separated the top five as riders struggled to adapt to the cooler conditions.

Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone (0.961s) was in fourth just ahead of his teammate Andrea Dovizioso (+1.004s) as both riders had the updated versions of their GP15’s from Brno available to them.

EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Scott Redding (+1.059s) impressed in front of his home fans to finish as the leading Satellite rider in sixth. His compatriot Bradley Smith on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 M1 ended the session in seventh.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), and local hero Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) completed the top ten.

Irishman Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) finished as the top Open class rider in 15th, with his teammate Nicky Hayden in 19th and Aussie Jack Miller down in 22nd.
