Lowes: “There was a little mistake by me”

Lowes: “There was a little mistake by me”

A home pole position for Sam Lowes despite running out fuel mid-session at the Octo British Grand Prix.

There was drama with a little over 15 minutes to go in Qualifying as Sam Lowes’ Speed Up bike ran out of fuel. Showing true grit and determination, Lowes pushed his bike back into the pits and his Speed Up Racing team quickly refuelled the Moto2™ machine and put in a new set of tyres. What followed was perhaps one of the best laps the Brit has produced since joining the Moto2™ World Championship in 2014. A 2’06.345 saw Lowes claim a popular home pole and set a new pole position record.

The time came as a surprise to Lowes who thought he would only be able to do a mid 2’06.  It was an incredibly special moment for Lowes who soaked in every second of his cool down lap, the Silverstone grandstands erupting with cheers and jubilations at his accomplishment. For the third time in 2015 Lowes will start from pole, the previous two occasions seeing him finish off the podium. Third time lucky for Lowes.

Sam Lowes: “It’s incredible here. I feel the support so much. There was a little mistake by me and I missed my board, maybe we cut the fuel a little too tight. That’s something we’ll have to talk about as a team. I knew I had the pace for a special lap and I knew I could do a mid six, so a 2'06.3 is something I’m really happy with as I didn’t think I could do that. I’m really happy and I think it’ll be a good race, I’m really proud to have this pole position.”
