Record-breaking Rins tops Moto2™ FP3

 Record-breaking Rins tops Moto2™ FP3

Alex Rins set the fastest time ever by a Moto2™ bike around Silverstone to top FP3 ahead of fellow rookie Alex Marquez, with Rabat third.

Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Rins became the first man to ever lap under the 2’07 mark on a Moto2™ bike at Silverstone during Free Practice 3. The Spaniard had already beaten Takaaki Nakagami’s 2013 pole record (2’07.039) with fifteen minutes to go. Then on his very last lap he went even quicker to set a 2’06.932 to top the session by 0.092s from his 2013 Moto3™ rival Marquez (EG Marc 0,0 VDS).

Tito Rabat (+0.405) made it two EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex’s on the provisional front row as he finished in third. The reigning Moto2™ World Champion struggling to match the pace of the rookies Rins and Marquez.

Championship leader, Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco (+0.413), was only 8 thousandths of a second behind Rabat in fifth as he showed no ill effects from his big crash in FP2.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes had topped Friday’s practice sessions, but had to settle for fourth in a highly competitive session that saw just over a second separate third placed Rabat and his former teammate Mika Kallio in 18th.

Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0.533s) was sixth fastest, ahead of Julian Simon (QMMF Racing) and Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) in seventh and eighth respectively. JiR Racing Team’s Randy Krummenacher and Sandro Cortese on the Dynavolt Intact GP Kalex completed the top ten.

There were crashes for Italtrans Racing Team’s replacement rider Francesco Carisculo (In for Franco Morbidelli), Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten), Florian Alt (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) and British wildcard Bradley Ray (FAB-Racing), with all riders unhurt.
