Rins: “I thought I was fourth!”

Rins: “I thought I was fourth!”

A strong second place finish for Alex Rins at the Octo British Grand Prix in tricky conditions.

Sunday’s Moto2™ race was yet another new experience for rookie Alex Rins on his Paginas Amarillas HP 40 Kalex, as he raced with wet tyres on a rapidly drying track. Rins had looked strong all weekend but none of the riders were prepared for the tricky conditions Sunday’s race would bring. An initially wet track saw Rins made a solid start to the race and led until Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) passed him. The young Spaniard then focused on maintain his position as he became involved in a large group.

There was a heart raising moment for Rins towards the end of the race as Florian Alt (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) came blasting past. Rins had thought this meant he was in fourth, but in reality Alt was simply un-lapping himself as he had swapped to slicks early in the race. This is Rins’ seventh podium of an incredible debut season in the intermediate class and the result moves him to second in the Championship table. Both Rins and Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) look set to take their battle for second to Valencia.

Alex Rins: “Yeah, the five laps from the end I tired to push on the limit because when Alt passed me I thought I was fourth! For sure I tried to push push push and finally I finished second. A really good result for me, difficult this race with the wet tyres in the dry conditions. Anyway, I’m happy for that.”
