Rins: “I’ve tried everything”

Rins: “I’ve tried everything”

Alex Rins narrowly misses out on a home victory at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon after a titanic clash.

Sunday’s Aragon GP was restarted due to a crash on the opening lap, the red flag being brought out in order for a rider to receive medical attention. The restarted Moto2™ World Champion race was scheduled for just 14 laps, causing Rins to swap to the softer option tyre and radically rethink his race plan. As the restart got underway, the impressive Moto2™ rookie immediately latched onto the back of Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), eager to learn from the experienced rider. Despite the difference in experience, Rabat was unable to shake Rins’ yellow Paginas Amarillas HP 40 Kalex.

As the race reached its conclusion Rins struck, putting in a string of fast laps and pushing Rabat at each corner. A mere 0.096s would split the two as they raced towards the line, Rins content with second knowing he had given everything in the race. In Jerez earlier in the year Rins crashed while attempting an all or nothing last corner move, having learnt from his mistake and seen Danny Kent’s spectacular last corner highside earlier in the day, Rins chose not to push his braking any later on the final lap.

Alex Rins: “When Tito got into the lead I wanted to stay behind him to see where he was quicker and I could close. I am a rookie so going behind Tito helps me to continue learning a lot. I’m happy with this second place because I’ve tried everything, but in the final braking I missed my braking marker slightly and I could not do well. I didn’t wasn’t to risk anything more because the crash of Danny Kent in Moto3 came to my mind. I decided second place was good enough. This is for all the people who came here to see me! Also for one big guy, for Kenny Noyes I hope he’s recovering soon. That’s it, I’m really happy for that.”
