Antonelli sets quickest time of the weekend in Moto3™ FP3

Niccolo Antonelli continued his domination of the Motul Grand Prix of Japan as he topped FP3 ahead of Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira.

Ongetta-Rivacold’s Antonelli continued his run of topping every session at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan as he set the fastest time of the weekend in FP3, a 1’56.572. Conditions were slightly cooler than on Friday morning, which resulted in a number of riders being caught out and crashing throughout the session. Antonelli’s time is just under two-hundredths of a second off Danny Kent’s Pole Record from last year (1’55.555).

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Brad Binder finished in second, but significantly 0.346s behind the pace of Antonelli. His teammate Miguel Oliveira (+0.372s) was in third, just 0.026s further back.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Jorge Navarro (+0.444s) was fourth fastest, with Romano Fenati (+0.504s) on the Sky Racing Team VR46 KTM in fifth. Leopard Racing’s championship leader Kent (+0.513s) was down in fifth, ahead of his teammate Hiroki Ono (+0.513s) who had earlier topped the session in sixth.

Isaac Viñales (RBA Racing Team), Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Drive M7 SIC) and Efren Vazquez (Leopard Racing) completed the top ten.

Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Moto3) crashed late on in the session at turn 3 but finished 11th; Scotsman John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG) was 17th. There were crashes for Tatsuki Suzuki (CIP), Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Andrea Migno (Sky Racing Team VR46), Jorge Martin (Mapfre Team Mahindra) and Remy Gardener (CIP).
