Folger: “I just brought it home”

Folger: “I just brought it home”

A welcome return to the podium for Jonas Folger who takes a safe second in the Motul Grand Prix of Japan.

Warm Up for the Moto2™ World Championship was reduced to just ten minutes to account for a near two-hour delay due to weather at the Japanese GP. With rain having fallen throughout the morning, riders had to quickly learn a wet Motegi circuit. Alongside Warm Up, race distance was cut to 15 laps and saw race strategies rewritten. Folger made a strong from third on the grid and the German soon found himself leading the Moto2™ race.

Newly crowned Moto2™ World Champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) was determined to celebrate his title with victory and closed down Folger, the German pushed to second on lap five. The AGR Team rider attempted to stick to the back of Zarco’s Kalex, but his pace was too much and Folger felt he would crash if he continued pushing. Even with just a few laps matching Zarco’s pace, Fogler was able to open a comfortable margin to third and settled in for a safe second place. Folger’s last podium came in Jerez when he claimed victory, the ten races since filled with a variety of hardships. Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) finished 11 seconds behind Folger, the pair will be teammates in the Dynavolt Intact GP team in 2016.

Jonas Folger: “ It was difficult but I felt good, even in Warm Up and the wet conditions. I was quite confident going into the race and the start was good. I was leading a couple of laps then I knew Zarco was behind me and his pace was, at that moment, much better than mine and he overtook me. I just tried to go with him but I was over the limit so chose the safe way. I just brought it home in second. Finally it’s great points and it’s great to be back on the podium. Thanks to the team as we did a great weekend and even in the last races we are coming constant and improving every race. I’m really looking forward to the next races.”
