Takahashi: “It has been a great experience”

Wildcard Takumi Takahashi scores points on his MotoGP™ World Championship debut at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan.

For many wildcards, especially in the MotoGP™ class, scoring points is difficult and a dream but Takumi Takahashi made it a reality on Sunday. The Team HRC Nissin rider not only had to battle the best riders in the world, but also was forced to overcome difficult on track conditions on his debut. The Suzuka 8 Hours ace ended Sunday’s contest in a solid 12th, scoring respectable points in his premier class debut and beating out several big names in the process.

With all of the weekend’s practice having taken place in the dry, Sunday’s wet conditions were a new challenge for the HRC test rider. Takahashi handled the sudden change well and was able to continue to push in the race as tryes dropped off due to a drying track. Even so Takahashi had hoped for more if the race had remained fully wet, eager to use his local knowledge to give him an edge over the other riders.

Takumi Takahashi: “It has been a great experience riding my first MotoGP race! All weekend we have had dry weather and I’ve been able to steadily improve. However, today has been wet all day and I wasn’t able to deliver the result I had hoped. In the first part of the race I lost a lot of time as I was trying to find a good feeling. Anyway, I learned a lot about the tyres and racing alongside these riders and it was a great experience with HRC and Nissin, so I’d like to thank them for this opportunity."
