Zarco sets new record in Moto2™ FP3

Zarco sets new record in Moto2™ FP3

Johann Zarco sets the fastest ever Moto2™ lap at Sepang to finish ahead of Alex Rins and Thomas Luthi in FP3.

Ajo Motorsport’s Zarco set a 2’06.881 to become the only Moto2™ rider to break the 2’08 barrier at the Sepang International Circuit and smash Pol Espargaro’s lap record from 2012 (2’09.692). Zarco then crashed out on his final flying lap at turn 15, but the 2015 Moto2™ World Champion was unhurt.

The Frenchman’s time was good enough to beat Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins into second by 0.327s, as the rookie once again impressed. Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0.624s) completed the provisional front row.

Rins’ teammate Luis Salom (+0.652s) ended the session in fourth, ahead of Jonas Folger  (+0.690s) on the AGR Team Kalex in fifth and Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes (+0.729s) in sixth.

Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), Mika Kallio (QMMF Racing Team), Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) completed the top ten.

EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Tito Rabat is missing the Malaysian GP to allow him to focus on recovering from the broken radius in his left arm.

Check out the full Moto2™ FP3 results; Qualifying starts at 15:05 local time on Saturday.
