A guide to the #MalaysianGP Moto2™ race

All of the information you need to impress your friends about the Moto2™ race at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The 19-lap race at the Sepang International Circuit kicks off at 13:20 local time on Sunday:

  • Tom Luthi starts from pole for just the third time in the Moto2™ class and for the first time since the opening race of 2012 in Qatar. This is the third time that Luthi has been on pole at Sepang, and on both previous occasions he has gone on to win; the 125cc race in 2005 and the Moto2™ race in 2011.

  • Johann Zarco starts from second place on the grid – his 12th front row start of the year. Zarco has finished on the podium thirteen times so far in 2015 and with one more top three finish he will equal the record of 14 podiums in a season in the intermediate-class (Moto2™/250cc), held jointly by Marc Marquez (2012) and Tito Rabat (2014).

  • Rookie of the year in Moto2™, Alex Rins starts from third place on the grid – his ninth front row start of the year. After winning one week ago in Australia, Rins will be aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time in the Moto2™ class.

  • Heading the second row of the grid is Jonas Folger, who finished second two weeks ago in Motegi, which was his first podium after winning the fourth race of the year at Jerez.

  • In fifth place on the grid is Lorenzo Baldassarri – his best qualifying result of his grand prix career. Baldassarri had his first grand prix podium finish at Phillip Island one week ago when he was third.

  • Taking the final place on the second row is Sandro Cortese, which is his best qualifying result since the Czech GP. Cortese won the Moto3™ race at Sepang in 2012, the year he took the world championship title.
