Dovizioso: “Ducati have done a lot of work”

Andrea Dovizioso joins Ducati for the final day of testing in Jerez, making continual steps forward ahead of 2016.

Ducati Test Team rider Michele Pirro had spent two days lapping the Jerez circuit before the arrival of Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati Team teammate Andrea Iannone on Friday. Dovizioso continued to adapt both his riding style and his GP15 to the new Michelin tyres as well as attempting to improve the new unified Magnetti Marelli software. Both are significant changes that have the potential to drastically level the playing field and hopefully return Ducati to the top step of the podium once more. Already in 2015 Ducati made huge steps forward and Dovizioso finished the first three races in second place.

Even just a single day on the bike was beneficial for ‘Desmo Dovi’ who was able to help define a clear development path for during the off-season. There’s obviously still work to do, but the Italian left pleased having set a time of 1’39.7, just over a second off is qualifying lap from the Jerez round earlier in 2015. Considering that both the tyres and electronics are new, this is a solid achievement and sets Ducati in good steed for the coming 2016 season.

Andrea Dovizioso: “The balance is very positive, especially if we compare it to the tests we did after Valencia. Ducati have done a lot of work in these three days. We made steps forward with the balance of the bike and, more importantly, we found a precise direction for development over the next two months. Of course there is still room for improvement from the point of view of the management of the tyres and the electronics, but we gathered a lot of positive feedback to enable us to prepare for the first tests of 2016 in the best possible way.”
