Hernandez: “I have worked hard to adapt my riding style”

The first test of 2016 comes to a close for Yonny Hernandez and his Aspar MotoGP Team in Sepang, ending 14th.

Tropical downpours overnight and at 3PM saw track time reduced on the final day of MotoGP™ testing but Colombia’s Yonny Hernandez managed to make the most of the time available. Although familiar with the Ducati GP14.2, Hernandez has to learn how the bike behaves and re-acts on the new Michelin tyres and with the new spec ECU. Throughout the three-day test he made great progress and finished with the 14th fastest time overall, ahead of factory Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso. There’s still work to do for the Aspar team and Hernandez, the Colombian continuing to adjust his riding style to suit the new technical regulations. The next test kicks off in two weeks time in Phillip Island for a further three days.

Yonny Hernandez: “I am happy with the changes we have made to the bike and with the steps forward we have taken with the electronics. Over the past three days we have done a lot of work with the traction control, I have worked hard to adapt my riding style to the new tyres and the new electronics. The relationship with the team is building every day and that allows us to quickly deal with any problems that do spring up. Everything we have tried over the past three days has been positive so hopefully we can continue to move forward like this in Australia. We are planning to work on some different traction control mappings and also the power delivery. The Ducati has a lot of horsepower and sometimes it is difficult to control the hard rear tyre. So in Australia we will also be trying to find more grip.”
