Leopard Racing begin 2016 with private Barcelona test

The first test of 2016 concluded in Montmelo for Leopard Racing’s Moto3™ division, conditions limiting progress.

The 2016 season is about to begin and the Leopard Racing team did not want to waste time, putting all the wheels on the track in two days of private testing at Montmelo.

The month of February sees the preparations for the 2016 season begin for the Moto3™ World Championship. After winning the world title at the hands of Danny Kent, the Leopard Racing team have not lost time before putting all their riders on track for two days of private testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Montmelo was a real debut in several respects, especially for the riders. There will be three protagonists from the team that will line up in the cadet category of the championship, each came with great determination and a desire to prove their worth: Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir and Andrea Locatelli. The other important technical innovation is represented by the motorcycle: the prototype with which the three riders defend the colours of Leopard Racing on is the KTM RC 250 GP 2016, the trump card with which confirm their place on top of the world.

Across the two days, the pilots began to learn their respective teams, getting to work immediately and giving them the first indications of what the year may hold. It’s also a challenge for the engineers and mechanics, which approach the new bike for the first time, focusing on various adjustments to the machine and how it responds. In order to speed up the growth and confidence of the team, the Leopard Racing bow exudes professionalism and an exchange of information. The feedback of the riders and the recorded times showed steps forward. The goal is simple: to establish a good base set-up for the start of the season.

Fabio Quartararo: "Yesterday was my first time riding the KTM: it went quite well, but the conditions of the track and the strong wind did not allow me to express myself better. I am adapting quickly, taking every continuous moment to learn something more of this bike, although the conditions are not ideal. We expect the other days of testing to improve and gain more confidence. The feeling with the engineers and mechanics are important. In these two days we have made several interventions, but I think that in Valencia we can improve a lot. "

Joan Mir: "In reality the conditions have slowed us: the track was very dirty and a strong wind prevented us from pushing. We tried different solutions; I think we already have a good set up for the next test on Thursday in Valencia. I have already noticed many improvements compared to yesterday: especially on the front, in and through the corners. We must continue in this direction. "

Andrea Locatelli: "Yesterday was the first time I rode in the saddle after several months since my injury. For me everything is new: the bike, the team and the environment. I am adapting slowly and I'm taking confidence. Yesterday we worked a lot on engine braking because it was a little hard to put it in the curve. Today, however, we have already made a big step forward. We remain focused on the setting; we are trying different solutions to better get out of fast corners and push immediately. Perhaps it is moving a bit 'too much to the front, while there is traction."
