Rossi: “We have to stay focused”

Valentino Rossi and his Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team arrive in Phillip Island ready for the second test of the year.

After a strong showing in Sepang, both the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders are eager to get out on track in Phillip Island and continue their preparations for 2016. On Wednesday the 17th of February, just a day after his 37th birthday, Valentino Rossi will be reunited with his Yamaha YZR-M1 for the second official MotoGP™ test of the year. Ending the Sepang test in fourth on combined times, and second to his teammate Jorge Lorenzo when removing those who used the soft rear to set a time, ‘The Doctor’ was pleased with progress but is aiming to reduce the gap to Lorenzo. Continued comparisons between the 2015/2016 hybrid bike and the full spec 2016 machine will be top of Rossi’s list in Australia. Michelin are set to bring a new specification of tyre due to unique demands of the Phillip Island circuit.

Valentino Rossi: “After a few days of rest and working out at home, I'm ready for the second test of the season in Phillip Island. I‘m very happy to test our bike at the Australian circuit. The temperatures will be high and this will be a good opportunity to gain other important data about the new tyres and the electronics. The test in Malaysia went very well for Yamaha. We still need to improve but in general I was very satisfied about the behaviour of the bike. Yamaha worked really hard during the winter and I‘m eager to test the bike at another track such as Phillip Island, where we usually are pretty fast. We have to stay focused. Our rivals are working a lot and already from the Australian Test many things can change. I feel good, I‘m continuing the physical preparation and it will be very important to return at the front immediately on track. We want to continue the work begun in Malaysia and continue testing new material and improve the bike for this season.”
