Pedrosa: “I didn't put in many laps”

A difficult first day of testing in Qatar for Dani Pedrosa, the factory Honda rider down in 13th position.

After a strong showing in Phillip Island, many within the Honda camp were hopeful their issues had been fixed. Unfortunately the first day of the Qatar test proved to be a difficult affair for both Repsol Honda Team riders, especially Dani Pedrosa who ended 13th and 1.458 seconds back on Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) who led the opening day of the test. One of the last riders to head out on track, Pedrosa completed only 27 laps as he struggled to find a good setting for his RC213V around the Losail International Circuit. Major changes are planned for the second day of the test, but Pedrosa is uncertain if these changes will hold the answer to his issues.

Cornering is the problem area for the Spaniard and his teammate, Marc Marquez, neither able to perform as well from the middle to the end of the corner as they’d like. Fortunately two days remain of the Qatar test, giving Pedrosa and his crew ample time to experiment with settings as they hunt for a solution ahead of the 2016 season.

Dani Pedrosa: “The first day in Qatar is always a bit tricky because the track is not very clean, so we started a little later today and I didn't put in many laps. We've been testing calmly in order to see the feeling we have and start working with the bike, but we struggled a bit. We got some ideas about what to test tomorrow; we don't know if it will be the solution to our issues, but we will make a bigger change to see if it helps us go faster. We're struggling a bit, because we are not taking the corners as fast as we want."
