Dovizioso: “We have made big steps forward”

After a slow start to the testing period, Andrea Dovizioso ends the Qatar Test well placed in eighth overall.

Having debuted the 2016 Desmosedici GP in Malaysia, Andrea Dovizioso and the Ducati Team have made steady progress at each test with the new machine. Their progress culminated in an eighth place finish at the Qatar Test, a 1’55.700 on the final day under saw 'Desmo Dovi' two tenths back on his factory teammate Andrea Iannone. The final day of testing also saw Dovizioso fit the soft option front tyre, this threw up several issues with the setting of his Ducati but the team were able to work around them. Several riders have found it difficult to get the most out of the soft option tyre, with Dovizioso’s team having already solved the issue he may have a distinct upper hand should they be needed during the first race weekend.

Racing begins on the 20th of March under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit. In 2015 Dovizioso produced a spirited ride, battling for victory throughout the entire race. He and Ducati are eager to reproduce this result and go one better as they quest for the first win since 2010.

Andrea Dovizioso: “I am very pleased because we have made excellent progress in these nine days of pre-season testing. Today we also decided to test a softer front tyre in view of the race, and this created a few set-up problems, but in the end we managed to work well and improve my feeling with the bike in the final run. Overall these three days of testing in Qatar have been very productive and we have made big steps forward that make me feel very confident for the race weekend.”
