Espargaro: “I lack in confidence with the front'

A difficult pre-season wraps up in Qatar for Aleix Espargaro who is left with a lack of confidence in the front after multiple falls.

Three days of testing ended in Qatar with Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Aleix Espargaro in 15th and 0.8s behind his teammate Maverick Viñales. The test proved to be more of a struggle than Espargaro and his team would have liked, mostly due to multiple crashes, the last on Friday ending his test early. Overall it has been a difficult pre-season with crashes not only having an effect of his physical condition, but also sapping Alex Espargaro’s confidence. Finding a setting to suit his riding style has proved the biggest challenge for his Suzuki crew.

Although his position on the time sheets was not ideal, Suzuki remain pleased with the work done by Espargaro over the off season and are confident that they can turn a corner with him before the first race. Certainly the results of Viñales prove that the GSX-RR is capable of more. On the 20th of March the 2016 season will begin under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit.

Aleix Espargaro: “Needless to say that this winter pre-season has been very tough for me. I crashed so many times and this slowed down our development job. I still feel I lack in confidence with the front-end, as said I am a very aggressive rider and I like to turn the bike with the front in my hands; unfortunately we haven’t found the compromise that allows me to be confident in this and the result is that I crashed a lot. Anyhow, apart from the single-lap classification I must say that we are not in a bad position, the results don’t reflect the real potential we have and the job we have done on consistency will probably pay us back. The evolutions introduced by Suzuki are effective, we have a lot of room for improvements and the race will probably see me more competitive than what I could in tests.”
