Laverty: “We finish this test with a smile”

Laverty: “We finish this test with a smile”

Work continues for Eugene Laverty who is unable to complete as many laps as he would have liked.

Improvements on each day see Eugene Laverty set a best time of 1’57.146 at the Qatar Test, leaving him 20th on the combined times. This concludes a difficult pre-season for the Aspar MotoGP Team rider who suffered a heavy fall in Sepang, which drastically reduced his time on track. As such the following tests have seen the Irishman attempt to play catch up, finally beginning to feel as though his GP14.2 was his own bike. As with many riders, Laverty did no have enough of his preferred tyre to set a late flying lap and improve his position.

The most important aspect of the test was that Laverty was able to renew his confidence after the early crashes and is now back on track for the start of the 2016 season. Racing resumes at the Losail International Circuit on the 20th of March.

Eugene Laverty: “We have to be positive because this is the first test we have completed without a major accident! I have got my confidence back and that's the most important thing going into the new season. I have built up my feeling with the bike at this test, I still had a strange feeling with the front but we did make some big progress in that area towards the end of the session today. Unfortunately at that point we didn't have the best tyres to run so I couldn't set a lap time but it does mean that we finish this test with a smile and we know we have made an important step before the race weekend.”
